The European Commision consider that, one of the main obstacles to Russia`s entry into the World Trade Organization is the restriction on export of timber. The European Commissioner for Trade, Karel de Gucht, consider that Russia will be ready to join the WTO no earlier than 2012. Meanwhile, Russia tried to join the WTO since the mid- 1990s. Russian officials recently said that accession could take place next year.
