Press Release
Virtual Design Studio (VDS) expanded with custom image material for visualisation in the furniture industry
The Tyrolean wood-based material manufacturer EGGER and the Playframe agency of Berlin are receiving the “iF (International Forum) communication design award”. The 1prize in the category “digital media – Atmosphere” was awarded for the jointly developed Virtual Design Studio (VDS). The awards ceremony will be held on 3rd September. VDS allows the customer to apply decors and textures from a room library onto neutral furniture carcasses and visualise them in three dimensions.
An expert jury recognised the perfect implementation of 3D visualisation. “This award confirms the positive feedback we have already received from our customers for VDS. We will definitely continue pursuing our digital solutions,” says Hubert Höglauer, Head of Marketing EGGER Group.
COMPREHENSIVE DIGITAL SOLUTIONS
VDS is part of the comprehensive EGGER digital strategy ranging from decor development and presentation to sampling and the digital production of decors on the company’s own digital printing line. “We want to offer a comprehensive range of services to our customers, and using the latest technologies helps us achieve this. In the future, we intend to develop customer-specific decors and produce them in small batch series,” Klaus Monhoff, Head of Product Management decorative EGGER Group, emphasises. The use of digital technology supports flexible, rapid and most of all economical realisation. EGGER also intends to boost its leadership role in the area of decor development by implementing the digital strategy.
VDS HD IMPLEMENTATION AT EGGER
The first VDS HD version and VDS live – a three-dimensional visualisation with multiple projection – were presented at the ZOW 2010. VDS HD is a high-resolution programme displayed on a 40-inch high definition (HD) flat screen. Various room sets can be interactively loaded on the screen from a room library and high-resolution digital print decors can be applied.
“VDS HD” has been installed at all major EGGER plants in the meantime. The prototype of VDS, which was first presented at the EGGERZUM and ZOW, has already been installed in the EGGER visitor centre in St. Johann. Other EGGER plants where VDS HD is already installed: Unterradlberg (AT), Brilon (DE), Hexham (GB), Rion des Landes (F) and the sales office in Moscow. VDS HD will also be installed in Radauti, Romania in the near future.
FURTHER DEVELOPMENT WITH CUSTOMER IMAGES – CUSTOMER VERSION COMING THIS AUTUMN
EGGER has pursued the further development of VDS in the meantime. Loading furniture industry images into VDS is now supported. The photos can then be selected as visualisation templates on the screen. The next step will be a customer version that can be acquired by industrial clients for their own use. This next VDS version will be presented at the SICAM fair in Pordenone (Italy) in October.
NEW DIGITAL PRINTING LINE IN BRILON
The installation of a digital printing line at the Brilon plant will commence within the next few weeks. Production of the first decors developed in-house is scheduled for the autumn. A multi-pass line with a printing width of 207 cm (81.50”) was chosen. Two positions for reprographic experts have been created at the Brilon plant in order to develop know-how in this field. Initial scanning and test printing using the new plotter (with a width of 160 cm – 62.99”) has been successfully completed. |
