The price of wood has been examined from the harvest until the moment of its sale, in a new study that was made public by the Forest Industry Council of Quebec (CIFQ). The study tends to confirm that this crisis is structural and is not the only consequence of the weakness of the American market.
Quebec is selling in Loss and it’s situated at the end of the list of the provinces in Canada. "We got until 13%. Quebec is really the last on the list, like I said since 2-3 years now. The foreign people, who haven’t done anything else than to figures the numbers, told us about this long time ago. In my opinion this is even more important." said the general director of CIFQ, Guy Chevrette.
The study shows that they spend too much in the process of exploration and that workers are used too little. This situation is even worse in remote regions.
Guy Chevrette suggests eliminating taxes on fuel and administrative simplification.
Forest Industry Council wants another study conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers. This time, the study’s objective is to assess the impact of the measures contained in the proposed law the Minister of Natural Resources.
