This action comes as a result of the Environment Report issued in 2008, which shows that the whole forest funds have disappeared in 23 districts. Thus, in this rhythm, Uganda will remain with no forests by the year 2050.
"During this period of time, we work on new regulations which will be presented to the ministry. In areas like Nakasongola, where the problems are very serious, we will prohibit the deforestations both in forest reserves as well as outside them, "said Andrea Hudson, director of the natural forest area.
"Only 30% of forests are protected, but are attacked preserve. Forests located on private land are cut for coal, "he added.
Between 1990 and 2005, Uganda has lost about 26.3% of the forest funds (1.3 million hectares).
Andrea welcomed the Environment Report and stressed the seriousness of the situation shown. It also asked the authorities to stop poaching support and votes in exchange for money. He added that it will prohibit the cultivation and harvest in the forest natural reservations.
