Cameroon's wood industry recorded a collapse, which caused the loss of 10.000 jobs, due to the financial crisis.
This sector was first affected by the international situation, which, until recently, had affected on the Western countries and Asia.
Following the statements issued by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, it was established that the timber export for this half of year has dropped with approximately 170.000 tones in comparison with the same period of 2007.
The current situation has determined the authorities in Cameroon to organize an emergency meeting. It cannot be postponed because a large number of jobs in this industry are in danger, and large quantities of timber are remain unexported.
2009 does not bring a better situation. There aren't any command registered and the already established ones are being cancelled. Both national and international companies are affected by this situation.
