Moscow - a day before the Summit from Nice, France between Russia and the EU, Moscow has filled a conciliatory motion, on Wensday. Thus, it has delayed the introduction of higher taxes on timber exports. The taxes represented a problem for neighbouring countries.
The raise in export costs, up to 300%, from 15 euro to 50 euro/m³ should have been instated starting with the 1st of January. It has been postponed 9 to 12 months.
The raise of the prices would have complicated efforts to harmonize commercial relations between Bruxelles and Moscow.
The chief of the EU’s delegation for Trade and International Relations greeted the news stating: „There will be plenty of time to negociate profitable businesses for our industry without intrerrupting trade in January.”
An important aspect which must be debated during the summit reffers to the decision to resume negociations for a new Act for Cooperation between the EU and Russia. |
