According to the last reports issued by Western Wood Products Association, Oregon’s timber production has dropped, for the second year in a row, reaching the smallest valuae in the last recorded in the last 10 years. The main cause is the drop in demand for wooden houses.
Oregon is the largest producer of timber from the US, but it was stii affected by the crisis of the wooden houses industry. The timber volume has dropped down to 12.2%, in comparisson to last year. Yet, the biggest downfall was recorded in Montana – 13.8%.
Low production caused small sales. Thus, the estimated value for timber sales in Oregon was 2.19 billion usd. Montana recorded sales valued at only 281 million usd.
Timber consumption in USA dropped 14% since 2006. The biggest consumption was recorded in 2005 – 64.3 billion timber planks. Currently, the total demand is for only 12 billion planks, the equivalent of the production from Oregon, Washington and California. |
