Greenpeace recommend us an online decalogue, 10 things to do to save the forests: without tropical wood - the Indonesian wood is, in 80% of the cases, illegaly cut... And pay attention to the parquet. The wood has to be FSC or PEFC certified.
Here are all the wood species Greenpeace calls "catastrophic", in order to be avoided if we want to save the forests.
Problematical:
- Oak, poplar.
Catastrophic:
- red Canadian cedre
- Tropical woods:
- Ayous (it is known also of Obeche, whitewood);
- Mogano (from the tropical America and Antille) and African mogano;
- Jatobà, Cabreuva dorada;
- Teck (because of whom the forests of Birmania were distroyed);
- Merbau and Kwila (still used in the parquet production!);
- Shorea (Red Meranti and Red Balau were the giants of Asia, having up to 70 m hight);
- Ramino;
- Azobe, Bongossi, Ekki and Ironwood;
- all the African wood: Okoume, Dossie, Frake, Paduk, Kotibe, Tanganica and tanganica wallnut, Kosipo and Moabi, Aniegre (all these species come from the primary African forests). |
